Maersk Maker, the final vessel of Maersk Supply Service’s Starfish AHTS newbuilding series, was delivered yesterday from Kleven Yard. The vessel’s arrival completes Maersk Supply Service’s Fleet Renewal Programme, with ten new-build vessels delivered and 23 vessels divested over the last three years.
The average age of Maersk Supply Service’s current 44-vessel fleet has been reduced to less than ten years. The composition of the renewed fleet – 30 AHTS vessels, 12 SSVs and 2 PSVs – supports Maersk Supply Service’s integrated solutions offerings for offshore projects in the areas of towing, mooring and installation; subsea construction; inspection, maintenance and repair; and light well intervention.
New-building programme complete
Ten new-build vessels have joined the Maersk Supply Service fleet since March 2017, including six M-class AHTS vessels of the Starfish series and four I-class SSVs of the Stingray series. Both vessel types have been designed to optimise reliability, energy efficiency, comfort, and safety.

Vessel divestment programme complete
In 2016, Maersk Supply Service set out to reduce its fleet in response to the global over-supply of offshore support vessels. A total of 23 PSV and AHTS vessels have since left the fleet, with the final vessel divested in October 2018.
“It has been a priority for us to do our part in addressing the over-supply in the industry, as well as strengthening our asset base for project delivery. Here at the end of the renewal programme, we have a more modern and competitive fleet to meet the needs of our customers,” says Steen S. Karstensen.
About THE M-class Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessels
The M-class vessels are DP2 deep water AHTS vessels of SALT design. These state-of-the-art vessels are built for deep water anchor handling and oilfield operations with reliability, safety and minimised environmental footprint as a top priority. Powered by five medium speed engines with total output of more than 23,000 horsepower, a fuel efficient and flexible hybrid propulsion system and fixed pitch on all side thrusters, these vessels provide good fuel economy, low emissions and excellent station keeping capabilities. Also designed for safe deck operations, the vessels are equipped with a multi deck handler system, anchor recovery frame, gypsy handling system and other aids.
About THE I-class Subsea Support Vessels
The Stingray class subsea support vessels (SSV) are a series of highly versatile vessels. Designed together with Marin Teknikk, the vessels are built as a flexible, stable and reliable platform to carry out a wide range of deep and shallow water operations in challenging offshore environments. With a very energy efficient propulsion set-up, these DP 3 vessels feature a 400 t active heave compensated crane and 2 work class ROVs capable of operating in up to 3,000 m water depth. The large 1,850 m2 free deck is uniquely designed with hundreds of non-welding, sea fastening features and cofferdams are built in above all tanks to ensure efficiency and flexibility for client operations. The accommodation features 120 modern single cabins to meet increased comfort level requirements.
