Project Description

During the summer of 2019, Maersk Supply Service extended its partnership with The Ocean Cleanup and supported the tow, installation and testing of the upgraded cleaning system, System 001/B, in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.

Using the lessons learned from the launch of the first cleaning system in September 2018, System 001/B is a modular floating array with screen designed to collect floating garbage from the oceans. Maersk Supply Service has drawn on its marine experience to support The Ocean Cleanup with towing the new system from Vancouver to the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, launching the cleaning system on location, and daily monitoring and testing of the system. On 2 October 2019, it was announced that System 001/B was successfully collecting plastic debris.
