How long have you worked at Maersk Supply Service, and what was your starting position?
I had my first trip with Mærsk Supply Service back in November 2017 as a cadet on an Anchor Handler vessel in the North Sea. Since my graduation in April 2019, I have worked as an Officer on various ships in the fleet.
What skills have you developed?
I have developed many interpersonal skills as well as practical skills. I have learned a lot about working together with people with other backgrounds than my own. I have also learned to think creatively when challenges occur and to manoeuvre large DP vessels.
What projects have you worked on and what was the highlight?
In Fall 2019, I worked on Maersk Transporter supporting Ocean Cleaning in the Pacific. From working on the Ocean Cleanup project, it was great to support a project that helps clean out the sea. It was very satisfying going out in the boats every day, installing the system, testing ideas, and collecting garbage. At the same time, it’s amazing to see the wildlife and know that you’re helping clean their home.
I have also been working on Anchor Handlers in the North Sea. Most recently, I have been working on Mærsk Launcher with DeepGreen, also in the Pacific.
What is the most interesting part of your job?
There are a lot of things making this job interesting, but one of my favourite things is that I get to work with a lot of different people. Aside from the crew, I also get to work with researchers and scientist, which gives me plenty of opportunities to learn something new.
What has been your greatest achievement in Maersk Supply Service?
I have been recently been promoted to Second Officer and that has definitely been my greatest achievement so far.
What are your goals for the future at Maersk Supply Service?
I am always striving to be a better Officer and to learn more skills. One day I hope to get promoted to become a Senior Officer.
