"Building on schedule" is not a phrase you commonly expect to find in the construction industry, but that is exactly how it is as the new simulator complex rises from the ground at Maersk Training Centre's Svendborg headquarters.
The first ground was turned over in April 2008 and the final electrical socket is expected to be wired into place by mid January 2009, right on schedule. Already an amazing 10 kilometers of network cable have been installed - that is not the heavy electrical stuff needed to power everything from the computer banks to the kettle, that is another 25 kilometers! The network cables are just the hair-thin wiring that will supply the brains of the complex.

Once the wiring is complete, and the lacquered tiles dry everything will be ready for the new hardware and softward. Chief Instructor Tonny M. Moller is hopeful that a new era in anchor handling will kick off with course number 201.
The previous 200 courses have marked their value to Maersk Supply Service in creating arguably the best trained seafares in the business. The new set-up will further enhance that reputation with world-leading facilities aimed specifically at the Maersk Supply Service fleet and which include the ability for four satellite operations to work independently, but in tangent with the full mission bridge. "I have seen the graphics and they are fantastic. The only thing that is missing is the sea air, but we are working on that" states Tonny.
